In very simplistic terms the 4K on the 5D-IV is a collection of good quality JPEGs and that is why the size gets so high. You can use the proxy file methodology within many video editing softwares to edit 4k from a 5D-IV on a non-highend computer. As an aside I use SD cards for 4k rather than CF cards because SD's can save one large file of any 2YR3MF.
